About

Ronnie J. Dunn

Falling Water History gets its name from the Falling Water River, or just the Falling Water, as my Uncle Albert once corrected me. I suppose, having grown up in the area, that he thought using both Water and River was redundant. Many European families came to this part of Tennessee from the late 1700s, and many of them stayed while others moved westward after a while. All of my ancestors were in this region by 1840, so I have a deep connection with the families who lived here.

My name is Ronnie J. Dunn, and I have been interested in genealogy since my mid-teens. I have spent many days in libraries, court houses, and cemeteries, as well as, online, searching for the history of my family and that of others as well. When I was in college, I hung out between classes in the Tennessee Room of the local library, helping those who came by to find the correct books and microfilm. Later, I began researching genealogy for others for pay.

My varied educational background has helped me in this pursuit. I hold a bachelor's degree in Journalism, with a minor in history, as well as a second bachelor's degree in agriculture. I also have a master's degree in education, and a Ph.D. in environmental science. Regardless of my other pursuits, genealogy has been a driving interest for me for more than half of my life.

This site is now, and always will be, a work in progress. I hope to add more information, at least weekly, and I hope that you will find something that interests you or helps you in your own research journey. Also, I would be thrilled to provide research services to you as I have for many others over the years. Please go to the Research Services page to find out more about what I offer.
