Research Options

  1. On-Site Research - I am able to perform on-site research within the area local to me, which is made up of the following 14 Tennessee counties: Cannon, Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Smith, Van Buren, Warren, and White. The rate for on-site research is $300 per day, which includes 7.5 hours of research time plus the time required to compile a report. As with all genealogical research, there is no guarantee of any particular outcome, but all records checked will be recorded and you will receive a report of all findings and activities. Depending on my scheule and your research question(s), half days are possible.

  2. Remote Research - Remote research is performed entirely online and/or by collaboration with other researchers local to the geographical area in question. Remote research can be performed for any location within the United States. The rate for remote research is $225 per day, which includes 7.5 hours of research time plus the time required to compile a report. Keep in mind that not all records will be available remotely and that, if collaborators are involved, this research could take longer than on-site research. As with all genealogical research, there is no guarantee of any particular outcome, but all records checked will be recorded and you will receive a report of all findings and activities. Depending on my scheule and your research question(s), half days are possible.

  3. Guaranteed Research - Most genealogical research comes with no guarantee. The records might not exist or the research might take a great deal of time beyond the amount budgeted. The guaranteed research option allows me, for a single research question, to guarantee an outcome. The guarantee is not that the requested information will be found but that you will only pay if the research produces a successful outcome, answering your single research question. A single research question might involve a request to find the father of someone, a maiden name, a property transfer, etc. I undertake this type of research at odd times, so there is no guaranteed timeline. It might take a day or a year, but if I can successfully answer your research question, you agree to pay $300. If I cannot answer the question, you pay nothing.

Let's Make a Research Plan

When hiring a genealogist, you should begin with a research plan. To make a plan for you, I will need your research question(s) and all the related information that you currently have. With this information, I will create a plan with basic research steps and a budget. I will also include options that will work for large or small budgets. Please email your question and related information to me at ronniejdunn@gmail.com to begin.
